BENEFITS OF VEHICLE TRACKING

There are five main reasons why companies benefit from the investment in a remote vehicle management system.

Fleet Efficiency Increases

In order to improve efficiency, monitoring of vehicle activity has to be undertaken.  Until now, most monitoring of fleet activity has been dependent upon the accuracy of a driver’s inputs. However, the constant automatic monitoring of driver behaviour, vehicle activity and location information from an office base, will improve fleet efficiency. Careful observation of a fleets’ position on a single map will allow the dispatcher to squeeze in one more job when customer service is needed. Possibly the most important area of cost justification is to reduce the manpower bill when operating a remote workforce. Careful monitoring of stop/start times and places will allow quality audit trails for driver work cards, mileage claims, personal mileage and customer disputes. Don’t forget also that for all the time a remote worker is on overtime, someone is either supporting or managing the activity. Some companies have reported a saving of 15% of overtime payments by simply monitoring vehicle activity against work cards.

 Communications Savings

No more of the “how did City get on last night?” or “what did you do at the weekend?” type of calls to mobile phones. (A survey showed that the total cost of calls to mobile staff are as much as 50% more than the total cost of calls from mobile staff). By using a combination of Position on Request (POR) or frequent GPRS position reports, together with driver text and data messages, expensive voice contact can be kept to an absolute minimum.

 Fuel and Maintenance Savings

Any good remote fleet management system will provide evidence of driver behaviour. Monitoring, for example, excessive speeds, lengthy idling and route deviation will give greater control of the fleet leading to mileage and fuel savings. Systems can also be set up to monitor private mileage.

 Insurance Reductions

Many insurers offer benefits to fleets that reduce their risk by installing security only tracking systems. A remote vehicle monitoring system can provide additional benefits to a security system by providing location information for stolen vehicle recovery.
